Invisalign® Q & A

Danforth Dental

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a brand of aligners that are practically invisible, so you don’t have to feel self-conscious about your appearance. These thermoplastic aligners fit comfortably in your mouth since they’re custom-made. When you have these aligners in, your teeth will gradually straighten out.

How Does Invisalign Straighten My Teeth?

Invisalign gently and gradually pushes your teeth into straighter positions by applying a certain amount of pressure. You won’t actually feel your teeth moving into these new positions, but you might experience mild discomfort at first. Keep in mind that you don’t wear the same set of aligners the entire time. Instead, you switch to a different set of aligners as your teeth shift to different positions.

Will My Invisalign Be Done At the Office?

Dr. Facella doesn’t provide Invisalign at the office, but he does contract out this service. If you’re interested in having Invisalign, Dr. Facella can evaluate your teeth to make sure you’re a good candidate for this type of treatment. If so, he’ll help ensure that you get Invisalign aligners that are custom-made for your teeth.

How Long Should I Wear Invisalign?

For daily wear, you’ll need to have your aligners in for 20 hours a day or more. Otherwise, they won’t be able to move your teeth effectively. Overall, you should plan on wearing aligners for up to one year to fully straighten your teeth. This timeframe can vary for different patients, but Dr. Facella lets you know how long you’ll need to wear them for a full treatment.

What are the Benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign provides you with some notable advantages over metal braces, such as:

  • Removable instead of having to be worn at all times
  • Easier to keep clean on a regular basis
  • No restrictions on food
  • More comfortable
  • Less visible

How Should I Clean My Invisalign?

Keeping your Invisalign clean prevents bacteria from building up on them and causing tooth decay or gum problems. It also keeps your aligners in good condition. Clean your Invisalign daily using a special cleaner or a brush and warm water to rinse off food particles. Dr. Facella can provide you with more detailed information on caring for Invisalign.
